Swim Across America
Swim Across America
Libertyville has had a long history with the Swim Across America event in Chicago. SAA’s mission is to raise awareness and funds for cancer research through swimming related events.
Back in 1997 Libertyville had 5 swimmers who swam the 6 mile tag relay, one guy swam two miles. A year later that same group geared up to race the 6 miles up and down Ohio street beach and ever since then it has been a Libertyville tradition. In 2004 as a fun incentive to get teams to enter more and more swimmers a trophy was awarded for having the more participants in the event. Libertyville won that first ever team trophy and earned the honor of naming it “Cherished Lives”. It has gone back and forth between a number of teams since then and the race has changed from the 6 mile relay to a swim of distances anywhere from 1/2mile to 3miles. Last year we had the most participants for team Libertyville ever with 20 swimmers.
This year Swim Across America will be on July 23. please visit swimacrossamerica.org to support our swimmers or sign up!
